The Alcázar, built in 1939, has one of the best locations in Barcelona - on the Rambla Catalunya, 37. Up to the end of World War II the cinema mainly screened German, Italian and Spanish films. Purchased in 1948 by Señor Balañá, it was renovated by Bonamusa in 1966. The generously-dimensioned entrance area with the spectacular deep-drawn ceiling will be disappearing soon for structural reasons. Inside the cinema is a decorated section of building dating from when the original structure was built. The bar and the Art Déco window behind it are both worth preserving. The lower section leading to the auditorium has a geometrical pattern woven into the carpet that gets repeated in the curtains by the screen, and at its centre is a monumental chandelier.
