Attention! Closed from june 2001 because of modification into a multiplex cinema. In 1965 Don Pedro Balañá, the head of the Grup Balañá, made one of his dreams come true. He had the architects Peret Ricart Biot build the Palacio Balañá; movie house in the area near Sants main station. It was the most modern cinema in Europe at that time. The left-hand third of the building contained a generously-dimensioned entrance lobby, and on the second floor there was an interval room of just the same size, with an interminable bar. Modern materials such as steel, glass, and cleverly positioned lights were used in its construction. The lights manufactured for the main stairs by the Italian firm of Venini Murano should not be missed. The external facade, decorated with white geometrical modules, gives one a clue as to what awaits inside: a movie auditorium in space. It really is like sitting in some massive UFO with a view of outer space, in which the massive screen can be seen hovering.
