EDIFICIO D'HABITAGES
Architect: Antoni de Moragas Gallissà and Francisco Riba de Sales Year: 1964 to 1970 Address: Via Augusta, 128-132; c/ Brusi, 39-42; c/ Sant Elies, 11-19 Bus: all lines to Plaça Molina
From 1964 to 1970, Moragas and Riba de Sales planned three apartment blocks with three separate entrances on the area enclosed by the Via Augusta, c/ Brusi and c/ Sant Elies. All three buildings are uniformly designed. The pillars, floors and ceiling beams in their entrance halls are of concrete, the side walls are of brick, and ceramic tiles were used for the ceilings and certain smaller areas of the walls. Arranged in different ways, these tiles have varying patterns. The halls speak a language of their own, combining international forms with local architectural tradition. The building with its entrance hall facing the Via Augusta is today owned by the son of Francisco Riba de Sales, and can easily be visited. A meeting can be arranged with Señor Riba, who is an architect himself - just ask the porter.
